Literature review is basically an organization of information derived from secondary resources including books, newspaper, journals or some other literary resources. Review of literature involves information related to your specific subject of study. In a literature review, students are required to review the ideas of scholars presented about a particular literature before. In general, a literature review set the tone to begin the process of academic research writing.

Sometimes, students who are not good at writing academic papers ask questions related to the length of a literature review, however, there are no specific rules for assigning a length to a literature review. Length of a literature review may vary with data available to you for research. Therefore, you can not predict the exact length of a literature review as data availability varies with respect to different topics.

In general, there are two types of literature review. Here they are:

1.Traditional/Narrative Literature Review: In this type of review, you will be required to summarize the existing literature in your own words. Descriptive and narrative arguments are used in this kind of review in order to inform reader about the subject of research in depth.

2.Systematic Review. It is a critical literature review since you are required to present the topic of literature with versatility in this sort of review. In a systematic review, students present existing information in quite a new manner with balanced evaluation of existing arguments about the subject.

Some students do not know how to do a literature review, therefore, in order to help those students to write literature reviews, here are five steps for them regarding how to write a literature review.

Step 1. Search the Relevant Data

At first, you will be required to find information relevant to the topic of study. This process will take time, so, it will be better for you to assign a time limit to your research. Assigning a time limit to your research will provide you the sufficient time for study.

Step 2. Identify the Most Appropriate Information

You should extract information that is appropriate and relevant to the topic of your study. Extracting particular information about the subject of study will enhance your research focus towards the topic.

Step 3. Start Taking Notes for the Subject

You should also take notes about the subject. Taking notes will aid you create some points for your topic of study.

Step 4. What is a Review?

Reviewing literature is all about summarizing, evaluating and assessing information in terms of quality according to the subject of research.

Step 5. Organizing the Information

This is the most important part to present a critical literature review. You will be required to present information in a logical manner so that the reader can get an idea about the subject in a comprehensive manner.
