Bodyguards, also known as close protection officers, are professionals who protect people from loss of confidential information, and physical threats like assassination, assault, harassment, kidnapping, and stalking. These highly trained security personnel are generally employed by high profile public figures like politicians, movie stars, professional athletes, and other celebrities.
The primary responsibility of bodyguards is assessing security threats and providing the necessary security measures. However, contrary to popular belief, the role of a bodyguard can be very complex.
For instance, bodyguards employed by multi-agent units may have to perform varied tasks like communication protection, analysis and assessment of risk, threat, and vulnerability, detection of chemicals and explosives, operation of different security measures, as well as mob screening and control. They may also be required to search areas for possible threats, and prepare travel routes.
Education and Training Requirements
Persons wishing to become bodyguards need to have at least a high school education. A military background or knowledge of law enforcement procedures is preferable. Prior to becoming a professional bodyguard, candidates must undergo rigorous training. These programs teach students about first aid, armed and unarmed combat techniques, as well as firearms tactics. Some courses also focus on martial arts training.

However with the bodyguard training they have obtained, they are well versed about how to handle any difficult situations that arise. Also, taking up bodyguard training and working in the industry can allow you to earn a substantial income, especially when you are providing Executive or VIP protection. The average hours a bodyguard will work are 6 hours with a rotation of other operatives, but the company you are working for usually determines this.

With the increase of violence throughout areas in the world, more people are taking on bodyguards to protect themselves and their families. These including being physically fit, able to work as part of a team, work independently when required, great observation skills, can maintain client confidentiality, remain calm under pressure, good planning skills and good interpersonal skills then a job in the Bodyguard industry may be just right for you. Most employers look for people who “fit in”. Do you look right in a suit, can you dress business casual? If so an Executive can use your protection.
Salary of a Bodyguard
Even if you have no previous experience, it is possible to begin bodyguard jobs, once you have completed approved training.Good bodyguards can command thousands of dollars per week, depending on the caliber of celebrity they are protecting. It's hard to give exact figures, but it is possible you could earn well into the six-figure range if you are good at your job. As an example, experienced bodyguards can earn around US $55,000 a year. Bodyguards, who work for VIPs or other people with high security threats against them, can earn over US $180,000 a year. Generally speaking, the greater the threat to the person you are protecting, the more money you will earn by keeping them safe.
