Default Teaching EFL

If you are interested in teaching English as a second language it's worth taking a course first. The best for British people is the CELTA. It's a very intensive month long programme, and will help you find work in lots of countries.

Thank you for the advice! I was considering getting the certification to teach EFL abroad. Is it an expensive course to take? Do you need to have a college degree in addition?

I thought it was called ESL? English as a second language. I have a good friend who teaches in France - she teaches English. She has her masters degree from the US in education and she specialized in English and French.

The cost varies depending on where you take it. If you can manage to find a local place and can live at home it may be cheaper. Many people go abroad, so they can then work in the destination country right after.

ESL is for people who are learning in a country where English is the official (or close 2nd) language, say The Netherlands. EFL is for those using it as a foreign language. Many people confuse the terms though, even employers!

TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) refers to a particular methodology for teaching people whose first language is not English. If you need training to be a teacher, ther are certificate course, Diploma course and Degree course. You may click these links and see.
