If you are interested in teaching English as a second language it's worth taking a course first. The best for British people is the CELTA. It's a very intensive month long programme, and will help you find work in lots of countries.

Thank you for the advice! I was considering getting the certification to teach EFL abroad. Is it an expensive course to take? Do you need to have a college degree in addition?

I thought it was called ESL? English as a second language. I have a good friend who teaches in France - she teaches English. She has her masters degree from the US in education and she specialized in English and French.

ESL is for people who are learning in a country where English is the official (or close 2nd) language, say The Netherlands. EFL is for those using it as a foreign language. Many people confuse the terms though, even employers! |
