Default How To Become A Dog Groomer

I hope you can help me become a dog groomer. I have worked as a hairdresser for 4 years now and I am really fed up with all the crap. The money is not good at all, the customers whine and ***** about the littlest things and my colleagues backstab each other at every opportunity. My only respite in this existence is taking care of snuffles, my shih tzu. My experience helped me clean her and bring out her beauty. She was so pretty after I fixed her up that friends started to ask me to help groom their dogs. It was fun and I think I really could get into this kind of work. My friends all have given me positive feedback and working with dogs is a very stress free experience for me. I was thinking of doing this for a living. Can I financially do so? Can it help sustain a single mother and a pet owner? I really want to take a shot at this. Do I have to go to like a grooming school or something? Who certifies dog groomers? I really hope you can help me. Thank you.

Hi Cindy

I feel for you. It's quite good that you found what you really want to do. You can either start your own shop if your confident enough in your abilities. Most dog groomers rely on word of mouth to get their customers. If however, you still feel that you need some more training, I would suggest applying for an established dog grooming shop or attending some training courses in a dog grooming school. Here are some links that may help you out.

I would like to suggest you that try to visit with local groomers and ask them about how they became certified.. And checkout Petsmart and Northern College of Applied Arts in Haileybury.. Use Google too... Definitely you will get the information. Good luck bro.
