How To Become A Direct TV Affiliate

My brother recently got into the television industry (he works as a technician) and since I just got my payout from an insurance claim, he was talking to me about becoming a direct TV affiliate. He said we would talk over dinner next week and I wanted to get some information before we meet. First question of course is what is a direct TV affiliate. I've browsed around some sites and it has something to do with providing services, but I really can't get how it works, what it does and how I get paid doing it. I don't really even get the concept of a direct TV, much less a program affiliate of one. I'm sure my brother can explain these things to me in more detail but I really prefer to know as much about the subject as I possibly can before talking to him. The second question would be how can one become a direct TV affiliate? What does one need, what knowledge and skills are pertinent in this endeavor? The third major question is how much do I have to shell out to become one, and how soon would my investment pay off. I'm just temporarily rich so this is one important question for me.
