Overview Hands-On Bricklaying Course

Not everyone who wants to learn bricklaying comprehensively wants a qualification to go with it so if you are looking for comprehensive and detailed training without having to undergo assessments for qualifications then this non-accredited course is perfect. You will cover essential areas of bricklaying to develop a very high competence level to help you tackle the most difficult of projects. This is a very thorough non-accredited training option.

What You’ll Learn

This 4-week Bricklaying course will provide you with in-depth training to cover 8 areas of essential bricklaying. Even though you will not be going through a qualification process your progress will be consistently assessed by our qualified Bricklaying instructor, giving you the same benefits as someone who might be training with us for qualification purposes. Qualifications are not for everyone and so this course has been put together for those of you who just want to come in and get on with learning bricklaying. We will provide you with the bricklaying training to meet the standards as required by City & Guilds but without the requirement of portfolio building and completion.

The areas in which you will be trained on are:

  • Working with stretcher bond walling
  • Timber frame faced with the best brickwork
  • Cavity wall using pre-cast stone arch
  • Brick and block gable end
  • Semi-circled arch – rough ringed
  • Single flue chimney and pot using DPC
  • One brick thick EGWB with oversailing course

Choice of:

  • Segmental arch
  • Brick panels (diaper bond or herringbone)

How You’ll Learn

This 4 weeks of hands-on ‘reality’ training will cover all of the basic and essential skills that any Bricklayer will need in order to provide a competent service to any potential customer. This 4 weeks of hands-on bricklaying training will see you progress from a novice to a competent Bricklayer with the course designed to build your skills gradually until bricklaying becomes second nature.

Courses Open To You After

If you wanted to achieve a qualification at a later date, you could always come back and undertake the relevant assessments – you will have had all of the required training so should sail through the assessment process. Alternatively, if this training leads you into the workplace then maybe your next step would be to register for NVQ.

Additional Info

This course can be covered over a period to suit you and you can train for 4 consecutive weeks, divide your weeks up or even incorporate some weekend training if you have ongoing weekly commitments. At Able Skills, we aim to make our qualifications as accessible as is possible and additionally we offer a payment plan which, following a deposit, is on an interest-free pay as you train basis.

This is a hands-on, practical bricklaying course and you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential.
