Nutrition And Health (Qcf) - Level 2 Course

The Nutrition and Health – QCF Level 2 Course is designed to give prospective students a good understanding of nutrition and healthy eating and will lead to a relevant qualification.

With rising levels of obesity in both adults and children, the Foresight study has estimated that by 2050 approximately 60% of men, 50% of women and 25% of children in the UK will be obese. These increasing obesity levels could cost the UK over £40 billion a year through increased care requirements and missed working hours.

This course will teach students the importance of healthy eating whilst considering the nutritional needs of individuals and will give advice about how you can plan a healthy diet.

On successful completion of this course, students will receive a Level 2 QCF Award Qualification with 12 Credits.

The Training Course Covers The Following Units:

Unit 1: Explore Principles of Healthy Eating

Learning Outcomes: Understand how an unhealthy diet is associated with lifestyle diseases; Identify which foods provide sources of energy; Calculate your own energy requirements; Identify foods from each of the five food groups; Understand the role of nutrients in maintaining your health; and Identify how a variety of cooking methods can affect the nutritional values of food.

Unit 2: Consider Nutritional Needs of a Variety of Individuals

Learning Outcomes: Understand food sources of key nutrients for children, young and older people; Understand the importance of key nutrients; Plan balanced meals for children, young and older people; Understand nutritional recommendations for children, young and older people; Identify special dietary requirements, and Understand the different barriers to healthy eating.

Unit 3: Use Food and Nutrition Information to Plan a Healthy Diet

Learning Outcomes: Understand what information must be displayed on food labels; Identify the nutritional information that must be provided on labels; Understand your guideline daily amounts of energy and nutrients; Calculate the energy provided by certain foods; Understand the role of food additives; and Compare your food and drink intake to recommendations of the Balance of Good Health.
