Teaching Assistant Home Study Courses

The Teaching Assistant – Level 2 Course is designed for people who wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practices of teaching/classroom assistant roles.

The aims of the home study courses are to provide comprehensive knowledge and skills appropriate the conduct of a classroom support role, and to participation in a wide range of classroom support activities.

The home study courses are designed for study by distance learning at work or at home. Students receive course manual, assignments and study guide plus tutor support by mail and email. Each unit is followed by a written assignment, which is submitted and marked by your tutor. There is no external examination required. You can start at any time and plan your studies over a period of up to one year from the time of enrolment.

On successful completion of this course, students will receive an accredited Level 2 Certificate of Achievement.

The Home Study Courses Cover the Following 4 Mandatory Units:-

Unit One – Supporting the Teacher

The following topics are covered: The learning environment; Pupil behaviour; and Observing and recording.

Unit Two – Supporting the Pupil

The following topics are covered: Care and support; Health and hygiene; and Child protection.

Unit Three – Supporting the Curriculum

The following topics are covered: The National Curriculum; Planning, evaluating and assisting; and Pupils during all learning activities.

Unit Four – Supporting the School

The following topics are covered: Legal requirements; School organisation; and Policies and procedures.

The Home Study Courses Also Cover the Following 5 Optional Units (3 Required):-

Unit Five – Supporting ICT in the Classroom

The following topics are covered: Preparation and Maintenance of ICT Equipment; Supporting the Use of ICT Equipment; and Keeping Pupil Records.

Unit Six – Supporting Pupils with Special Education Needs

The following topics are covered: Inclusion and Special Educational Needs; and Support for Learners.

Unit Seven – Supporting Literacy Development

The following topics are covered: Supporting the Development of Reading Skills; Supporting the Development of Writing Skills; and Supporting the Development of Speaking and Listening Skills.

Unit Eight – Supporting Numeracy Development

The following topics are covered: Supporting the Development of Number Skills; Supporting the Development of Problem Solving and Data Handling Skills; and Supporting the Understanding of Measures, Shape and Space.

Unit Nine – Working with Others

The following topics are covered: Working in Teams; Working with Colleagues; and Working with other Professionals and Parents.
