The Infection Control in Health Care Settings – Level 2 (QCF) Course is designed for those involved in any work associated with the prevention and control of infection. The qualification aims to give everyone the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to the prevention and control of infection.
There are many reasons why the prevention and control of infection are important, not least is the legal responsibility with the duty of care for patients and clients. By completing this course, students will increase their awareness and knowledge of infection risks in the healthcare environment and develop skills in minimising risks.
There are four units in this qualification and each looks at different aspects of infection prevention and control and working in a safe manner. You are required to complete the activities for each unit to gain the qualification.
On successful completion of this course, students will receive a Level 2 QCF Certificate Qualification with 15 credits.
The Infection Control Course Covers The Following Units:
- Unit 1 – Principles of the causes and spread of infection in health care settings (3 Credits)
In this unit learners will know how infection is caused and understand how it can be spread in a health care setting.
- Unit 2 – Principles of the importance of personal hygiene and health in the prevention and control of infection in healthcare settings (2 Credits)
In this unit, learners will gain an understanding of the importance of personal hygiene and health in preventing infection in a healthcare setting.
- Unit 3 – Principles of decontamination, cleaning and waste management in health care settings (5 Credits)
In this unit, learners will understand the importance of cleaning, decontamination and waste management to prevent infection in a healthcare setting.
- Unit 4 – Principles of infection prevention and control in a healthcare setting (5 Credits)
In this unit, learners will understand the purpose of infection control. They will also understand the policy, roles and responsibilities relating to infection control.
